Last Electrolysis Post for a While (I Promise)

Three down and lord knows how many to go.

I bathed my lip in lidocaine and even took a couple of Neurontin from an old stash of Ayin’s, but electrolysis still feels like electrolysis. Trying to describe whether it’s better or worse is meaningless…like if something really horrible is slightly better, it’s still really horrible.

1984As I was lying there a weird memory came to me. The passage from George Orwell’s 1984, where Winston says (or thinks), “Of pain, you could wish only one thing: that it should stop. Nothing in the world was so bad as physical pain. In the face of pain, there are no heroes.” I haven’t thought about 1984 probably since 1984, but there you go.

It doesn’t get any better or easier the longer you lie there. It’s just consistently bad. In fact, I can tell when we’re near the end of the hour because it gets worse. Which I didn’t think was possible.

Eyes on the prize

But again, eyes on the prize. It looks so good! The little bald patches on my lip fill me with indescribable joy, and seeing them makes my recovery in the hours after a session more bearable.

When this is all over it will be nothing more than a war story, but I’ll never forget the battle.

To my sisters who have gone before me, much respect. I (literally) feel your pain.
